How effective your lawn mower is depends on how many blades you have.  The number of blades your reel lawn mower should have depends on the type of grass you want to cut.  If your grass is rather heavy such as St. Augustine and Bermuda, 7 blades are recommended.  For thinner grasses such as blue grass or Kentucky, 4 – 5 blades are recommended.
